Deck & Fence Painting or Staining
Deck boards and fence panels do different jobs. A walked-on deck, shaded railing and sun-exposed fence can wear differently even on the same property. We assess the wood and current finish before recommending a paint or stain scope and a practical maintenance direction.

The scope comes first
Know what goes into the work.
Exterior wood finishing shaped around its condition, existing coating and exposure.
- Assessment of requested deck, fence or railing surfaces
- Identification of the proposed paint or stain system
- Agreed cleaning and surface preparation
- Protection of nearby surfaces and planting where practical
- Application to the surfaces listed in the quote
- Product-specific use and maintenance guidance
From surface to finish
Preparation with a purpose.
Assess the wood and old finish
Review species where known, condition, exposure and the existing coating. Rot, loose boards and unsafe guards need attention before decorative finishing.
Choose a compatible direction
Compare the desired appearance with what the current surface can accept. A transparent stain, solid stain and paint are different systems; changing systems may require extra removal work.
Clean and allow drying
Use preparation suited to the wood and coating, address unsound finish and smooth agreed rough areas. The wood must meet the selected product's moisture requirements before application.
Apply and plan for use
Work with suitable weather and the product's instructions. Discuss when foot traffic or furniture can return, and what future inspection and maintenance will be needed.

What affects your quote?
A quote should reflect the condition and complexity of your space. We assess these factors before confirming pricing.
- Deck area or fence length and height
- Railing, spindle, stair and lattice detail
- Old coating removal and wood condition
- Access to both sides and nearby planting
- Selected finish, moisture and weather requirements

Questions about decks & fences.
Should I choose paint or stain?
It depends on the wood, old finish, exposure and appearance you want. We assess compatibility first; a change from an existing film coating to a transparent stain can require much more preparation.
Can new pressure-treated wood be stained immediately?
Not automatically. The wood's condition and moisture must suit the selected stain. Follow the product requirements rather than assuming every new board is ready on delivery.
Are both sides of a fence included?
Only the sides listed in the quote. Access, neighbours, planting and the finish on the other side need to be discussed before the scope is finalized.
How long will the finish last?
Exposure, foot traffic, standing moisture, wood condition and maintenance all affect wear. We do not promise a universal lifespan; the chosen system's care requirements guide future maintenance.
